Beet leaves Cooking

Yes Until my visit to Ooty in India I did not know that we cook an12322686_477996452395872_8795857761878874651_od eat Beet leaves. While visiting local market in Ooty saw it their in bunches. We always have this habit of visiting places where locals frequent. Every time when you visit such places you will learn their tradition and how they live and more details about those people.  Learned about Beet leaves newly in my this trip. Got those leaves and cooked it fresh with lentils. Tasted Yummy and it was meaty also. Cooked it just like our normal dal with greens.
It tasted good with rice and I am sure will taste good with Rotis(Flat bread).

  • Leaves from 6 Beets
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Onion 1
  • Tomato 1 
  • Garlic 3
  • Chili
  • Lentil(Masoor Dal) 1/4 cup
  • Coconut grated 1Tbsp.
Wash and chop Beet leaves with stem also which gives good taste.
In oil fry mustard seeds and Cumin seeds Add onion, garlic Chilies and saute for a while then add chopped Tomato and fry it. 
Add cut leaves and Salt cook it well. On the other side boil lentils in water and keep it ready.
Once your leaves are cooked add lentils and mix it with grated coconut.
